Taxonomy There is confusion regarding the identity of Monommata grandis Tessin, 1890 and M. grandis Tessin after Harring & Myers (1924). The latter was later renamed 'Monommata maculata, new species, Harring and Myers' (Myers, 1930), after comparison with specimens that Myers believed to represent the 'real' M. grandis ("As this is evidently the animal described by Tessin"). This was followed by most subsequent authors, but separation of M. grandis Tessin and M. maculata Harring & Myers is still far from being clear. [details]
